Connect Bluesky to Postclay

Use an app password, never your main account password — it can be revoked independently at any time.

Bluesky's fast-growing, algorithm-optional timeline is where a lot of former X/Twitter audiences moved — Postclay schedules to it exactly like X: short-form text, images, and now video, in the same composer and calendar as everything else.

Setup steps

  1. In Bluesky, go to Settings → App Passwords → Add App Password, name it "Postclay", and copy the generated password.
  2. In Postclay, enter your handle exactly as it appears (e.g. you.bsky.social, no leading @) and the app password.

Limits & requirements

Bluesky's own spec caps posts at 300 graphemes — not 300 characters. An emoji with a skin-tone modifier, for example, can be multiple characters but a single grapheme; Postclay counts graphemes the way Bluesky does, so the composer's counter matches what Bluesky will actually accept. Up to 4 images, or one video, per post.

What Postclay does differently for Bluesky

Character counting is where most tools get Bluesky wrong — counting raw characters or code points instead of graphemes means a post that looks like it fits can still be rejected by Bluesky, or a post that Bluesky would accept gets blocked by an overly strict counter. Postclay counts graphemes specifically to match Bluesky's real behavior in both directions.

AI generation, tuned for Bluesky

Postclay's AI caption writer counts graphemes, not characters, when it targets Bluesky's 300-grapheme limit — a generated caption with emoji or accented characters is measured the same way Bluesky itself measures it, so what the AI writes is what actually fits.

Troubleshooting

I can't find App Passwords in Settings.
Bluesky has reorganized its settings menu before — look under a Privacy and Security section if App Passwords isn't directly under the main Settings list.
Postclay rejects my handle.
Enter your handle exactly as Bluesky shows it (e.g. you.bsky.social), with no leading @ — Postclay adds that automatically when displaying it.
My post was rejected as too long even though it looked short.
A handful of emoji or accented characters can push a short-looking post over Bluesky's 300-grapheme limit — Postclay's live counter already accounts for this, so trust the counter over a visual character count.

Common questions

Bluesky has moved settings around before — look under a Privacy or Security section if it isn't directly under Settings.
Does Bluesky require a phone number or invite code to sign up?
Bluesky is open registration today, no invite code needed. A phone number may be requested for verification depending on your account, but that's a Bluesky sign-up detail, not something Postclay's connection needs.

Not yet — Postclay posts to your main timeline. Feed and starter-pack management isn't part of the connect flow today.
Does Postclay support Bluesky's video posts?
Yes — Bluesky added native video support, and Postclay's Bluesky connection publishes video the same way it publishes images.
