Connect Dev.to to Postclay

A single API key is all Dev.to needs.

Dev.to is a go-to publishing home for developer-focused writing with a built-in, engaged technical audience — Postclay schedules articles there the same way it schedules a caption to LinkedIn, on the same calendar as your other platforms.

Setup steps

  1. On dev.to, go to Settings → Extensions, scroll to DEV Community API Keys, enter a description, and generate a key.
  2. Copy the key and paste it into Postclay.

Limits & requirements

Dev.to has no practical length limit — Postclay allows up to 100,000 characters. Up to 10 images can be attached, each up to 25MB; Dev.to doesn't accept native video uploads through its API.

What Postclay does differently for Dev.to

Dev.to needs just one API key and nothing else — the simplest technical-blogging connection Postclay offers, which makes it a good first BYO platform to try if the others feel like more setup than you want.

AI generation, tuned for Dev.to

Postclay's AI caption and rewrite tools work on Dev.to's long-form articles the same way they work on a short caption — expand a draft, adjust the tone, or shorten it, all before your scheduled time arrives and Dev.to receives the finished article.

Troubleshooting

I can't find DEV Community API Keys in Settings.
It's under Settings → Extensions, further down the page than most account settings — scroll past the theme and notification settings to find it.
My scheduled article isn't showing on my profile.
Postclay publishes as a regular article the moment your scheduled time arrives — check the article isn't saved as a draft on Dev.to's side, which can happen if the API key lacks write access.
Can I schedule a canonical URL for cross-posted content?
Not through Postclay's composer today — set the canonical URL manually on Dev.to's side after the post publishes if you're cross-posting from your own blog.

Common questions

Yes — the first image attached to your post is used as Dev.to's cover image, the same way WordPress uses it as a featured image.
Does Dev.to support scheduling natively, without Postclay?
Dev.to has no native scheduling for regular accounts — Postclay's schedule is what handles timing; Dev.to just receives the finished post when your scheduled time arrives.
Does Postclay support Dev.to series or tags?
Tags aren't set through Postclay's composer today — add them on Dev.to after the article publishes if you want it grouped into a series or tagged.
