Connect Telegram to Postclay

Postclay posts to Telegram through its own bot, @Postclaybot — you don't create a bot yourself, you just add it to your channel or group.

Telegram channels are how many MENA and European audiences follow brands and creators directly — no algorithm between you and subscribers. Postclay treats it like every other platform: write once, customize for Telegram's format, and schedule alongside your Instagram or LinkedIn posts in the same calendar.

Setup steps

  1. Open the Telegram channel or group you want Postclay to post to.
  2. Go to Administrators → Add Admin, search for @Postclaybot, and add it with at least the "Post Messages" permission.
  3. Find the chat ID: for a public channel, it's the @username; for a private channel or group, forward any message from it to @userinfobot to get the numeric ID (starts with -100).
  4. In Postclay, go to Accounts → Connect Telegram and paste the @username or numeric ID.

Limits & requirements

Telegram's Bot API allows up to 4,096 characters in a plain text message, but only 1,024 characters when the message carries a photo or video (Telegram's own caption limit). You can send up to 10 images or videos together as one media group. Postclay checks both limits before you schedule, not after Telegram truncates the post.

What Postclay does differently for Telegram

Most schedulers that support Telegram only check the 4,096-character text limit and miss the smaller 1,024-character caption limit that kicks in the moment you attach media. Postclay checks both, and the composer's live counter switches to the tighter limit automatically as soon as you add an image.

AI generation, tuned for Telegram

Postclay's AI caption writer generates a draft once and checks it against Telegram's two limits automatically — 4,096 characters for text-only, 1,024 the moment media is attached — so a generated caption never needs manual trimming before it schedules alongside your Instagram or LinkedIn posts in the same batch.

Troubleshooting

Postclay says it can't find the chat.
The bot needs to be an admin of the channel or group, not just a member. Recheck Administrators → @Postclaybot has the "Post Messages" permission, then try reconnecting.
My caption got cut off mid-word.
Telegram's 1,024-character caption limit applies whenever media is attached, even though plain text allows 4,096. Trim the caption, or post the image and the full text as two separate posts.
I can't find the numeric chat ID for a private channel.
Forward any message from the channel to a bot like @userinfobot — it replies with the numeric ID, which starts with -100.

Common questions

Postclay says it can't find the chat
Double-check @Postclaybot is actually an admin of the channel or group — Postclay can't post until it is, and it verifies this the moment you connect.
Can I use a private group instead of a channel?
Yes — the same steps work for groups. Make sure the bot has permission to send messages in the group.
Does Postclay ever post as my personal Telegram account?
No — Postclay only ever posts as @Postclaybot inside the channel or group you connect. It never has access to your personal Telegram account.
Can the same bot post to more than one channel?
Yes — the @Postclaybot connection works per channel. Add it as an admin to each channel you want to post to, then connect each one separately in Postclay with its own chat ID.
