Connect WordPress to Postclay

WordPress uses application passwords — a separate credential from your login password that you can revoke independently at any time.

Self-hosted WordPress is still how a lot of publishers, agencies and personal blogs run their main site — Postclay schedules long-form posts to WordPress the same way it schedules a caption to Instagram, including the first uploaded image as the featured image automatically.

Setup steps

  1. Log in to your site's wp-admin, go to Users → Profile, and scroll to Application Passwords.
  2. Enter a name like "Postclay" and click Add New Application Password.
  3. Copy the generated password — it's shown only once. Spaces in it are fine to keep.
  4. In Postclay, enter your site URL, your WordPress username, and the application password.

Limits & requirements

WordPress has no meaningful post-length cap — Postclay's composer allows up to 100,000 characters for a WordPress post, far more than any realistic article. Up to 10 images can be attached; the first one becomes the post's featured image.

What Postclay does differently for WordPress

WordPress is the one BYO platform where Postclay writes a full featured-image field, not just inline media — connect it once and every scheduled post with an image automatically sets that image as the post's featured image, no extra step in the composer.

AI generation, tuned for WordPress

AI image generation pairs naturally with WordPress's featured-image field — generate an image for a post with Postclay's AI, and it's used as the featured image automatically, the same one-step flow as attaching any other image, no separate upload to WordPress's media library required.

Troubleshooting

I don't see Application Passwords under Users → Profile.
It requires WordPress 5.6 or newer and the site served over HTTPS — application passwords are disabled by default on plain HTTP. Update WordPress or enable HTTPS, then check again.
Postclay rejects my application password.
The generated password is shown only once and includes spaces — copy it exactly as shown, spaces included; don't retype it from memory.
My site is on WordPress.com, not self-hosted.
Self-hosted (your own domain running wp-admin) is fully supported. On WordPress.com, confirm your plan exposes the same Application Passwords screen under your profile — some lower tiers don't.

Common questions

I don't see Application Passwords in my profile
It needs WordPress 5.6 or newer and your site served over HTTPS — application passwords are disabled by default on plain HTTP sites.
Does this work on WordPress.com, not just self-hosted?
Self-hosted (wp-admin on your own domain) is fully supported. If your site is hosted on WordPress.com, check that your plan exposes the same Application Passwords screen.
Can I revoke Postclay's access later?
Yes — delete the application password from Users → Profile → Application Passwords at any time; Postclay's connection stops working immediately, with no effect on your main login.
Does Postclay support custom post types or only standard posts?
Only standard WordPress posts today, published through the REST API's default /wp/v2/posts endpoint — custom post types aren't supported through the connect flow.
